AV Squires Manufacturing

AV Squires recently took delivery of a bespoke plant body to accommodate their out of the ordinary requirements.

The family run business was started in 1971 by Doug and Vivienne Squires. It was obvious from the beginning the high level of engineering and care that would be required to build the correct solution for such a high calibre customer. Co-owner Rob Squires had desires beyond the standard plant body offered to the market place today, he wanted a `wag tail` concept type body so as many as three dumpers could be loaded and carried at once, this can be difficult on the standard `cheese wedge` type plant body as the ramps need to be folded.

In addition to this he also wanted to be able to tow a drawbar trailer. Truck Hydraulics Ltd specialises in special application, we took this opportunity to demonstrate our manufacturing process, the photo`s attached to this case study show the complete truck build from start to finish.

Our standard procedure is to never weld a crane sub-frame on a vehicle; this avoids damaging the total integrity of the truck. The Sub-frame is rotated and welded in 4 positions, its final position is upside down, by 1mm tolerance, weld prep and high powered application torsion and twist is reduced to an absolute minimum for the amount of sacrificial weight given to the sub-frame design.

Once all fabrication of the crane and body has been carried out the vehicle is painted to customer specification. We then complete the build by flooring the body and installing the crane.

Once complete we carry out an 80 point check in the finishing department prior to delivery to the customer. The vehicle is now out in the field living up to all the expectations of AV Squires.
